Bed Sore
BEZORE-QR OIL
Soothing Ayurvedic Support for the Skin of Bedridden Individuals
Bed sores, otherwise known as pressure sores, are nasty skin and tissue wounds resulting from interrupted blood flow to a particular part of the body for some period of time. These are generally found in patients with restricted movement in the hospital or persons with paraplegic or quadriplegic conditions.
What Causes Bedsores?
The wounds occur because of the prolonged pressure on some parts of the walls of the body that remain in constant contact with a bed or a wheelchair. They are generally interfered with in areas such as:
- The spine and tailbone
- Shoulder blades
- Hips and heels
- Elbows
When normal pressure is exerted on the skin and subcutaneous tissues with a bone above a surface, restricted blood flow deprives the tissues of oxygen and nutrients, ultimately causing tissue damage with time.
Stages and Symptoms of Bedsores
Stage 1:
This occurs when there is an area of persistent redness with warmth or firmness to touch. The region may also be itchy and painful. In people with darker skin, the affected area might be bluish or ashen rather than red.
Stage 2:
There is partial loss of skin in more cases, involving the outermost layers. Ulcers present as open wounds or blisters, or abrasions. The surrounding skin area may also show obvious changes in pigmentation.
Stage 3:
It involves skin loss, usually combined with damage to the deep tissue. The ulcers start to appear as deep craters or cavities.
Stage 4:
Stage Four ulcer is the most severe form and the most mature, often with extensive tissue loss, sometimes involving muscles, bones, or joints. Such wounds are at a very high risk of serious infection and carry a long, arduous healing process.
